What we collect,
and what we don’t
The short version. If you ask for the first chapter, we keep your email address so we can send it to you and, occasionally, news about new books and readings. We do not sell it, rent it, or share it with anyone outside the press. You can leave in one click; after that we keep the address on a do-not-contact list, because that is the only way to be certain nothing is ever sent to it again, and we clear everything else. Ask us to erase it completely and we will.
What is collected
What you type into a form: your email address, and for the contact form a subject and message. Stored alongside it, because we did not type that either: the page you sent it from, the referring link, your country, and the IP address the request came from — that is the record showing you asked to join. Forms are handled by East Nashville Press. Nothing is collected from you simply for reading a page.
Third parties on this site
Two that can see you, and one that runs the site:
- Spotify and Apple Podcasts embeds on the Listen page. These load only on that page, and when they do, those companies can see that a browser requested them. Their own privacy policies govern what happens next.
- Cloudflare hosts the site and the database behind the forms. It processes what you submit on our behalf and does nothing else with it.
There is no advertising pixel, no third-party tracker and no cookie set by this site. The typefaces are served from this site, not from a font company.
How we count reading
We count page views, on our own server. When you open a page, your browser tells us which page it was and which site you came from — and that is the whole of it. It is written down as a page, a date and an hour.
What is deliberately not recorded: no cookie, no visitor or device identifier of any kind, no IP address, and not the browser string — only whether the screen was a phone, a tablet or a desktop. If you arrived from a search, we keep the name of the search engine and never the words you typed.
Because there is no identifier, these counts cannot be tied back to a person, including by us. They are also held in a separate database from the mailing list, and the two are never joined — what you read is not attached to your address.
If your browser sends Do Not Track or Global Privacy Control, nothing is recorded at all.
Your choices
Every email will carry an unsubscribe link that works in one click. Until the mail is switched on, write and ask — we will take you off the same day. You can also ask what is held about you, or ask for it to be deleted, and it will be.
Children
This site is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect anything from them.
Who to ask
East Nashville Press, Nashville, Tennessee — through the contact form.
Accessibility
This site is built to meet WCAG 2.2 level AA. Every page is keyboard operable with a visible focus ring, text meets the contrast minimum in both light and dark, images carry alternative text, and nothing depends on colour alone. The Spotify and Apple players on the Listen page are supplied by those companies and follow their own accessibility behaviour.
If something here is hard to use, please say so through the contact form and it will be fixed.
